The Choices are bewildering, so you must decide
Travelling the West Coast there are plenty of helicopter operators that offer their trips into the alps, so how do you select. By shear accident we stopped at the Whataroa River valley contemplating a flight because it was such a beautiful day with perfect weather.
The advantage of leaving from this valley are not immediately obvious but when they explain that you travel along the Southern Alps from the north to see Mt Cook and the Tasman it becomes clearer. You get a better perspective of the scale of these mountains as you approach them and you don’t miss a thing. It is worth landing on the snow, so the logical stop is at the top on Franz Josef glacier where you photo options are amazing. The takeoff is not to bad either as you weave down the glazier above all those amazing ice structures.
These boys know what their are doing and have been doing it for some time, most definitely value for money and the best choice that we made. Enjoy.

No Superlative is Adequate.
This was the second time I have flown with Glacier Country Scenic Flights and the first time for my wife. The experience on both occasions was incredible and breathtaking. We did the 30 minute flight incorporating magnificent views of Mounts Cook and Tasman along with the Glaciers. Kevin the ground leader and Josh the pilot are very welcoming and knowledgeable about the area and glacier and mountain formation and retrenchment. We booked on the morning of our flight and were able to fly around midday. The weather was stunning and the in-flight commentary from Josh extremely informative. I have done a number of helicopter scenic flights and this is a must do experience that I would go out of my way to undertake. It is also absolute value for money. Thank you Kevin and Josh just an incredible adventure.
